The Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Paul Okpe, has said that the corps has arrested 2,147 motorists for traffic violations in the state.
Okpe who disclosed this on Wednesday said the offenders were arrested in the month of January across the state.
According to him, the 2,147 offenders were arraigned in a mobile court and fined accordingly by the court for various offences.
He explained that the offenders were arrested in New Benin, Oluku, Sapele Road, Tollgate, Auchi, Ekpoma and other areas across the state within the period the under review.
He said, “The corps has arrested 2,147 motorists for traffic violations in the state for the month of January. The offenders were arraigned in the mobile court and were fined according to the offences committed.”
Okpe listed the offences the violators were arrested and booked to include dangerous driving, overloading, route violation, speeding, use of phone while driving, seatbelt violation, and driving without fire extinguisher among others.
He however advised road users in the state to adhere to the traffic rules and regulations and maintain discipline while on the road in order to enable them arrive their destination safely.
