The upcoming 2024 Calabar Fashion Week will be a gathering of Nigeria’s and Africa’s creative talent to showcase their fresh design concepts that will project indigenous creativity on the global stage and contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s GDP.
President of Phronesis Fashion World Mr Jude Attah and his team, the organizers of Calabar fashion week, presented an award of Excellence to the radiant First Lady of Cross River State, Rev. Mrs. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu as the Calabar Fashion Week 2023 “Woman Icon Of The Year”.
This year’s event is packaged to deepen what was achieved last year, which was based on the theme: Buy Nigerian, Build Nigeria. It brought together fashion designers and fashion enthusiasts to celebrate African fashion couture in the beautiful city of Calabar, Cross River State.
Stunning models paraded creative designs made from unique African fabrics on the runway.
Wife of the Cross River State governor, Rev. Mrs Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, who was bestowed with an award as the “Woman Icon of the Year” for her visionary leadership, ideas and resources in building, mentoring and empowering humanity, spoke glowingly about the fashion initiative.
She said: “We look forward to partnering with some of the big brands that support and promote fashion and fashion designers for continuity and sustainability in the fashion industry in Africa.
“We believe in the next 10 years, the Calabar Fashion Week brand will be a major promoter of creative fashion and fashion designers in the continent of Africa and beyond. With partnership and sponsorship from the national, state and international bodies, both in the public and private sectors, Calabar Fashion Week will be a global event.
Notable designers at last year’s event include Triple Grace Solutions, Ukpelengi, NJ’s Couture, Dafareh, Tojah K Fashion, Jacksino Native Wears, Treasure Apparel, Horeholuwa Clothing and London Tailor, among others.
