A Ukrainian Company Offers to Invest in Nigeria’s Energy Sector

To make Nigeria a more energy-efficient country, a Ukrainian company has offered to produce 350–500 megawatts of renewable energy using solar and wind technology.

The offer was made in Abuja during a press briefing hosted by the Ukraine-Nigeria Business Council to introduce the company to the Nigerian government by Olexandr Zapyshnyi, Director of EDS Ukraine Power and Engineering.

Accompanied by Davyd Hohiia, the Second Secretary of the Ukrainian Embassy, and Olena Nedryhailo, the Head of the Ukrainian Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s Nigerian Office, Zapyshnyi stated that the company was producing approximately 40 megawatts of its own energy in Ukraine and expressed interest in supplying the investment in Nigeria.
He claimed that despite the ongoing conflict with Russia, the company has been operating in Ukraine for 15 years, working in various thermal and renewable energy sectors.

The President of the Ukraine-Nigeria Business Council, Mr. Ben Gbade-Ojo, praised EDS for initiating its African investment and deploying technology and expertise in Nigeria. He attributed Nigeria’s industrial and economic challenges primarily to the country’s inadequate electrical power supply.
He said that the company intended to launch its operations right away, starting in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory and moving on to other states.
