In compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s direction, senior officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development have alternatedly signed performance contracts for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, spoke at the event in Abuja and said that it was a crucial step toward institutionalizing the performance management system in the agency.
He emphasized that when he signed the contract with the ministry’s directors and heads of departments, it was in line with national priorities and aspirations to guarantee that the ministry stays among the top ones. He described the performance management system as the cornerstone of the ongoing reform in the Federal Civil Service.
“This is an excellent example, and I will strongly advise you to maintain your professional demeanor and commitment to your responsibilities. The mission assigned to this ministry is to spearhead the fifth pillar of the president’s priorities, which centers on infrastructure and transportation as growth-enabling factors.
He said, “This is one of the three elements that served as the foundation for the creation of the Ministerial Performance Management System Plan (MPMS), which served as the basis for the creation of your departmental performance contracts.
He stated that the current housing sector programs were more than just physical buildings; rather, they represented a dedication to raising everyone’s standard of living in Nigeria by guaranteeing that everyone had access to reasonably priced homes and basic facilities.
He explained that if individuals perform well, the ministry will perform well as well, saying that their performance feeds into the ministry’s performance.
You are increasing the ministry’s chances of success and improving its ability to serve Nigerians if you contribute your quota in accordance with the weights assigned to your departments exceptionally well.
“You and your departments should not be the cause of the ministry’s low performance and inability to complete important projects intended to address important issues that can facilitate the expansion of other economic sectors,” he told the high-ranking officials.
