Labor rejects FG’s N48,000 offer as minimum wage

On Wednesday, organized labor stormed out of the Federal Government’s minimum wage committee meeting over the latter’s offer of a new pay of N48,000.
Recall that organized labor had given the government until May 31 to complete discussions on a new living wage and had demanded N615,000 as the new minimum wage.
On Wednesday, the Tripartite Committee on New National Minimum Wage reopened talks.

According to credible sources, the government offer infuriated leaders of organized labor, which includes the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC).

One of the NLC delegates, Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, told Vanguard, “We asked whether the N45,000 is for transport, food, clothing, housing, or for what.”
“We simply told them to just go since they’re not serious, and we stormed out of the place.”
He claimed that the Permanent Secretary, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Office, made the government offer to them.
