NY, New York – A guy was tragically died in a dramatic sequence of events on Monday evening during rush hour in a crowded New York City subway station after being pushed onto the tracks. Authorities believe the incident was unprovoked, but it has left the city uneasy.

The attack happened on the northbound platform of the 4, 5, and 6 trains at the Lexington Avenue-125th Street station. Eyewitness accounts state that the victim, an unidentified male, was abruptly shoved onto the approaching train tracks from behind by another man while he was standing on the platform.

The suspect, 24-year-old Bronx resident Carlton McPherson, was quickly taken into custody by the NYPD as they arrived on the scene. McPherson faces a murder charge.

The NYPD unveiled “Operation Fare Play,” a new program that will send more police to subway stations to combat fare evasion and associated offenses, on the same day as this event. The sad incident has brought up the topic of subway safety and the necessity of ongoing watchfulness once again.
