The Federal Government through the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service, on Wednesday, promised to speed up the inspection and certification services required for the export of agricultural commodities from Nigeria.
It said this would enhance the ease of doing business in the sector, adding that this is in line with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council effort within the export environment.
The new Comptroller-General, NAQS, Godwin Audu, disclosed this in a statement issued by the service in Abuja.
The NAQS also announced that Audu assumed duty after the handover by the agency’s pioneer Comptroller-General, Vincent Isegbe, at the expiration of his tenure on December 12, 2023.
It said the handover was by the NAQS Establishment Act which requires the authority be handed over to the next most senior director in the agency to assume duty in an acting capacity.
Audu, a Deputy Comptroller-General of Quarantine, outlined key areas of focus for the agency under his leadership as acting Comptroller-General, as he stated that the service would ensure the ease of doing business in the agricultural sector, especially with regards to agro-exports.
“In line with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council effort within the export environment in which the agency participates, NAQS is committed to enhancing the export environment by expediting inspection and certification services, streamlining application processes and automating quarantine procedures.
“These efforts aim to significantly make life easier for agro-exporters and reduce the processing time for agricultural export documentation,” he stated.
On double taxation, he said the agency would optimise operations at interstate control stations to minimise delays in the haulage of agro commodities.
“Collaborative efforts with stakeholders will address and eliminate illegal operators causing bottlenecks on federal highways”, Audu stated.
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining discipline, order, and inclusiveness within the organisation, adding that this would ensure the development of officers and the sustainability of equal opportunities for all personnel.
